OUR SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
Bredengen contributes to promoting sustainability in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These goals represent the world's collective efforts to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, and limit carbon emissions by 2030.
The concept of "sustainability" is defined in the Brundtland Report "Our Common Future" from 1987. It entails developing society in a way that meets present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Sustainable development encompasses three key dimensions: environmental, social, and governance. These dimensions form the foundation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to integrate the environment, social development, and the economy in a holistic approach.
We have identified the following main areas:
3: Good Health and Well-being
By prioritising and maintaining a high level of health, safety, and environment (HSE) in the workplace, we ensure our employees a safe and healthy working environment, contributing to their health and well-being. We also collaborate with suppliers who are conscious of this aspect. Our focus on health and safety includes offering healthcare services and promoting health-promoting initiatives for our employees.
4: Quality education
We facilitate continuous training and development for all our employees. As a knowledge-driven company, we aim to have motivated team members who constantly evolve to contribute to the company's growth. We also encourage our suppliers and partners to do the same.
5: Gender equality
We actively work to promote gender equality in our recruitment processes and provide equal opportunities for all employees. Although we operate in a male-dominated industry, we continuously strive to achieve better gender balance within our company. We also aim to collaborate with suppliers who share our focus on gender equality.
8: Decent work and economic growth
We place great emphasis on the working conditions of our employees; thus, we focus on ensuring good working conditions and rights. We strive to maintain a healthy and stable economy while providing a safe working environment. We also collaborate with suppliers who share our approach.
9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
We stay updated through various forums and groups, provide continuous education for our employees, and invest in technology and innovation to enhance our business. We actively seek out local initiatives that promote innovation and the development of community infrastructure, collaborating with and supporting these initiatives where possible. We have also supported and participated in several development programs at colleges and universities such as NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and remain open to other areas of collaboration.
By actively engaging in different networks and maintaining a continuous focus on innovation and technological development, we constantly seek new ways to improve our business.
10: Reduced inequality
We place great importance on diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our business - internally, in our hiring practices, and throughout our value chain in accordance with our Code of Conduct. In doing so, we actively contribute to promoting social, economic, and political inclusion for all, regardless of age, gender, ability, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, economic status, or any other status.
13: Climate action
We take climate change seriously, and as part of our commitment, we will conduct carbon accounting to assess our environmental impact. This provides us with a clear picture of our carbon emissions and helps us identify areas where significant reductions can be made.
We also recognise the importance of documenting the climate and environmental footprint of our products. This involves mapping the entire life cycle of our products and identifying areas where improvements can be made. We will actively seek more environmentally friendly and circular solutions within our product categories to minimise our environmental impact.
Furthermore, we will focus on waste reduction and increasing our recycling practices. We are committed to implementing sustainable waste management methods and encouraging recycling both internally and among our customers and partners. We believe that efficient resource utilisation and reduced waste are crucial for mitigating climate change and achieving a more sustainable future.
Additionally, we acknowledge the importance of enhancing sustainability expertise within our organisation. We will invest in training and awareness initiatives for our employees to strengthen their knowledge of sustainable practices and encourage responsible behaviour at all levels of the business.
17: Partnerships for the goals
Collaboration and partnerships are key elements in our efforts to achieve the global sustainability goals. We are committed to working together with our suppliers, organisations, and governments to find collective solutions to the sustainability challenges we face.
We recognise that achieving sustainability requires a collective effort. Therefore, we actively seek collaboration with our suppliers to ensure that our value chains align with sustainable principles. We encourage dialogue and knowledge sharing to identify and implement best practices that can help reduce our environmental impact and improve social conditions.
Our goal is to create a positive and lasting impact on the planet and the communities around us. By collaborating with various stakeholders, we can leverage synergies and achieve greater outcomes than we could alone. We are committed to working together with others to create a sustainable future for future generations.
